Multiple active threads with cooperative multitasking in embedded system

In this paper, a novel software design architecture namely MATCOM (Multiple Active Threads with Cooperative Multitasking) for an embedded application with time critical access/control and peripheral data communication processes, is presented. The timing analysis of various functional processes in the software application is performed and the suggested method uses multithreading (Multiple active threads) and timer (Cooperative multitasking) in parallel. The method is also validated through the quantization of data transceiver's packet loss for communication with the other subsystems. The MATCOM architecture has helped us in building an efficient, accurate and modular application which has been validated through timing analysis and the data transceiver packet loss measurements. In addition to quantizing the performance improvement through packet loss measurements, the implementation also sorted out some synchronization issues and a few unparallel conditions. The timing estimates are guaranteed by the proposed method meeting the timing constraints and validated through measurements. The implementation of the related application in an embedded controller environment is reported herewith and the practical performance improvement is shown through experimental results.
