Brillouin gain efficiency in short optical fibers

We observe that the pump power required to reach a given Brillouin gain in short optical fibers when excited by narrow line-width continuous wave light, is less than expected. The lowering of the pump power is correlated with reduced group velocity of the Stokes wave.
