Detection and analysis of Jellyfish attack in MANETs

The recent advancements in the wireless technology and their wide-spread utilization have made tremendous improvement in productivity and communication in the corporate, military and industrial sectors. However, these advancements have also brought new security vulnerabilities. The applications of the security techniques of wired networks, such as access control and authentication have been unsatisfactory to wireless networks due to the unique features of such networks such as dynamic changing topology, no centralized control etc. As a result, achieving security goals for mobile ad hoc networks (MANET) has gained significant attention of academia and research community in recent years. Jellyfish attack is one of the serious routing attacks amongst all the network layer attacks launched on MANET. In this paper, we have implemented Jellyfish delay variance attack on AODV and proposed a JFDV detection algorithm that analyzes packet delaying misbehavior of nodes and detects multiple JFDV attacker nodes. It reduces average end-to-end delay and increases throughput by re-routing data packets through alternate route consisting of non-malicious nodes.
