A novel hybrid 4-D array architecture for intentional wireless power transmission

The paper describes a method to increase the reconfiguration level of time-modulated arrays. An additional reconfigurable feeding network augments the deployable control pulse sequence choices: in this way the sideband radiation phenomenon, typical of these arrays, can be fully exploited in precise wireless power transfer applications, thanks to the novel additional capability of radiation pattern steering at the fundamental frequency, too. The proposed novel time-based array architecture is applied to a 5.8 GHz eight-element patch array: an accurate nonlinear/electromagnetic co-simulation of the new planar reader demonstrates its agility in power transmission.
