A gear efficiency improvement in magnetic gear by eddy-current loss reduction

Magnetic gear has eddy current loss due to permanent magnets (PMs) unlike the mechanical gear. The eddy current loss becomes a main cause of decrease of gear efficiency. Therefore, this paper presented the eddy current loss reduction design of the PMs in the magnetic gear. The eddy current loss is calculated using a non-linear finite element method (FEM) based on 3-D numerical analysis and the effect of eddy current loss on the gear efficiency is analyzed.
