Methods of transient overvoltage suppression caused by energizing maneuver on a transmission line a little greater than the half- wavelength (HWL+)

This paper presents some results of the simulation of energization maneuver of a transmission line a little greater than the Half-Wavelength (HWL+). The line used in this study is constituted by the interconnection of existing 500 kV transmission lines in the Brazilian electrical system forming a trunk of 2600 km. The study is the analysis of energization maneuver. First using only surge arresters on both ends of the line. Later using pre-insertion resistors to mitigate the transient overvoltage.
