RCS characteristics of street curbs and the applications in automotive radar classification

Automotive radar sensors achieve a strongly increasing market penetration and are intensively used as sensors for Active Safety Systems from assisted driving to fully autonomous driving. That is true from Long Range Radar (LRR) to Short Range Radar (SRR) devices used for 360° radar surround view around a vehicle. In urban scenarios these sensors face complex conditions in not only detecting surrounding objects' locations and velocities, but also classifying the objects' type and estimating the descriptive parameters of that class.
