LD-MAC: A load-distributed data transmission in body area network

This work investigates the impact of different postures in the wireless sensor network (WSN) deployed on human body. Distance among these sensors varies when it changes posture. As a result the topology of the body area network (BAN) also gets changed and that affects the connectivity among the nodes. A set of postures during exercises in a repeated fashion for investigating different performance metrics of BAN has been considered here. The said BAN environment is simulated using Castalia. Initially T-MAC is used as a link layer protocol to examine different network metrics. It is observed from the simulation results that the network performance varies with the changes in posture. To map T-MAC in BAN environment, an enhancement is required. Hence, a load distributed MAC protocol (LD-MAC) is proposed to distribute the load of data transmission among the nodes in each posture. The proposed LD-MAC is also extensively compared with T-MAC.
