Recent advancements in design of microwave components for space applications

Satellite communication has greatly augmented the boundaries of science and technology. The RF subsystem is a pivotal component which has evolved tremendously over the years. This paper compiles neoteric developments of microwave components in the RF subsystem of satellites. The designs and results of some key components like Low Noise Amplifier (LNA), High Power Amplifier (HPA), Travelling Wave Tube Amplifier (TWTA), and Filters have been described in brief. There are several ways to characterize these components like materials used, frequency of operation, and specific output characteristics or performance. GaN is frequently used for fabrication; however, several variations like AlGaN, SiGe, InGaP, and GaAs have been investigated. The frequency ranges of C, X, Ku, and Ka-bands are commonly explored, while characteristics like high output power and efficiency are essential.
