A note on order reduction in frequency selective systems

We discuss a substitution commonly used in selective electronic circuits aimed at replacing a third order characteristic polynomial with a second order one in order to put into evidence the intuitive concepts of resonance frequency and quality factor. The influence of the position of the real parts of the poles on the negative axis on the above parameters is analyzed. The results are illustrated by a case study of a novel simulated inductor/resonator schematic.
