Abstract:

This paper presents a new algorithm to estimate the parameters and the time delay of continuous-time (CT) systems. The proposed algorithm uses the Simplified Refined Instrumental Variable (SRIVC) method to estimate the plant parameters while using a Gauss-Newton method to find the time delay of the system. The time delay cost function is filtered through multiple low-pass filters with different cut-off frequencies to generate a set of cost functions that share the same global minimum while having different local minima. This cost function set is then used to overcome the local minima and achieve convergence to the global minimum of the time delay optimization problem. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
