On the design of standard application function blocks for microgrid automation

This paper proposes a system approach for developing control and operation application function blocks (AFBs) for microgrid (MG) automation and industralization. The design requirements are defined from both a microgrid brain point of view and from an individual function block point of view. In order to verify the feasiblity of this approach, an example of an application in microgrid automation is given. Some details are presented on a standard approach which includes identification of key AFBs for microgrid automation, development of a hiearachy control structure, specification of individual AFB deisgn and coordination of all AFBs in an industrial process. In the end, the proposed conceptual AFBs are effectively illustrated using case studies, a high-level system engineering process for microgrid automation is also presented, showing that the proposed advanced MG control and automation development is a positive move for the future MG industry.
