Optimal voltage control of power systems with uncertain wind power using FACTS devices

This paper presents a Group Search Optimizer with Multiple Producer (GSOMP) to solve the voltage control problem of the power systems penetrated with wind power. Although the utilization of wind turbines in power systems reduces the fuel cost and carbon emission efficiently, it also affects the reactive power flow, which might result in negative efffect on the power losses and voltage stability. In order to alleviate this instability, this study optimizes the location of multitype Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices and their control parameters with GSOMP algorithm to minimize the real power loss and improve voltage profile simultaneously. The algorithm proposed has been evaluated on an IEEE 30-bus test system, in comparison with a state-of-the-art Evolutionary Algorithm (EA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). Simulation results show that the proposed method significantly reduces the real power loss on transmission lines and improves voltage stability.
