Design Studies of a Special Hybrid Excitation Flux-Switching Motor Drive for HEV

This paper presents a special hybrid excitation flux- switching (HEFS) motor which combined both permanent magnet (PM) and DC field excitation coil (FEC) as their main flux sources. This motor has been an attractive investigation due to overwhelming performances as well as flux control capabilities. The main feature of this structure is to have iron flux bridge to give path for FEC flux. In this paper, the basic machine topology and operating principle are presented. Then performance of HEFS is evaluated by finite-element analysis (FEA). Finally, experiment results of the HEFS motor based on dSPACE are given to verify conclusions.
