Coordination of surge arresters in DC 3 kV railway traction system-field tests

This paper presents field tests of surge protection devices used at railway lines in Poland. Two types of arresters have been investigated: a horn air spark gap and a varistor. The aim of the field tests was to verify the possibility of coordination of both types of arresters at railway line under normal operating conditions of the electric traction system 3 kV DC.
