Design of a one-dimensional wideband and wide scanning phased array antenna

This paper presents an improved phased array antenna which is based on the Vivaldi antenna. This phased array antenna has good UWB (ultra-wide bandwidth) characteristics. Meanwhile, its scanning angle has reached to 60 degrees. The length of each radiation unit has been optimized under the application of the low sidelobe algorithm, for the purpose of weakening the sidelobe. By the one-dimensional arrangement of radiation units, the gain of this antenna is highly improved. A sort of exponential tapered microstrip line is applied in the antenna design while several metal boards are used to reduce mutual coupling among these radiating units.
