A novel magneto-electric dipole antenna with a differential feeding structure

A novel magneto-electric dipole antenna with a differential feeding structure is proposed in this paper. The antenna is composed of a horizontal circular electric dipole, two semicircular shorted patches as a magneto dipole, and a rectangular cavity. A differential feeding structure is employed as a perfect balun to feed the antenna. The simulated results show that the antenna achieves impedance bandwidth of 89% from 4.0GHz to 10.4GHz, with VSWR≤2. A high and stable gain of 10.45 ± 1.45dBi is obtained over the operating frequency range via a rectangular cavity. In addition, the symmetrical radiation patterns of E- and H-plane with high front-to-back ratio (≥16dB) and low cross polarization (≤-40dB) are realized.
