Cross-coupled Gm-boosting technique for two-stage miller-compensated amplifier

A two-stage Miller-compensated amplifier with cross-coupled G_m-boosting structure is presented in this paper. The proposed G_m-boosting cell is able to increase the effective transconductance of the second gain stage such that the bandwidth can be substantially increased. Additionally, the required compensation capacitor is reduced significantly when compared with the classical two-stage Miller-compensated amplifier. Simulated using the device models of a commercial 130-nm CMOS technology, the achieved unity-gain frequency (UGF) and phase margin are 431.12 kHz and 73.2°, respectively, when driving a capacitive load of 1-nF under supply voltages of ±0.6 V. The improvement of the UGF over the classical Miller-compensated amplifier is 8.36 times. Moreover, the required compensation capacitor is reduced by 7.69 times.
