Investigation of the effect of input matching network on 60 GHz low noise amplifier

The effect of input matching on an integrated low noise amplifier (LNA) is investigated. A simple resistor-inductor-capacitor (RLC) equivalent circuit model (ECN) of the input impedance network is analyzed in order to determine its input impedance, phase response and transfer functions. A Matlab code was written to extract the matching network equivalent circuit components. The responses obtained are expected to be applied to the LNA to determine the frequency response and phase plot. The ECN is verified numerically using 2D advanced design system (ADS) software. The effect of the parasitic capacitances (C_be, C_bc, capacitance of the pad) of the network is examined. Findings indicate that the input matching response is stable and balanced, as shown analytically and numerically. The reflection coefficient (|S₁₁|) dB, and phase response are satisfactory.
