A new strain sensor based on electrospinning and thin film technologies

The paper presents a new technique for building strain sensors based on electrospinning and thin film technologies. Briefly, a tissue composed by polymer nanofibres deposited on a plastic support by electrospinning method is covered by a metallic thin film with the aim of increasing the Poisson effect efficiency when applying stress on the nanofibres on one hand and of improving the sensitivity in terms of resistance modification due to changing the relative position of the nanofibres by applying a strain to the device. A study regarding the influence of the nanofibres diameter and density and the thickness and type of the metal on the sensor characteristic is presented in the paper.
