Simulation and modeling technique for EMI measurement of the ECM motors in HVAC systems

The full simulation and modeling of ECM for HVAC systems is an obligation to understand the EMI problem occurring in the units. From the drive of an efficient model development of the ECM for HVAC system, a new hierarchical model proposed. This model includes simulation model, standards description, and experimental results. Estimation of conducted EMI by using computer simulation in advance gives the opportunity to design an efficient, and cost effective EMI filter, which meets the law. This manuscript presents simulation and common mode noise measurement modeling, PCB parasitic, drive system modeling, and an EMI filter for an HVAC motor. It is possible to predict conducted EMI emissions from the ECMs from the simulation circuit based on the developed models. Comparison of simulation result and the experimental result shows that they are to be in agreement.
