Modelling and analysis of high frequency resonant inductive power transfer for electric vehicle charging system

In the recent decades, an enormous awakening in electrical vehicles researches and industries has raised the needs of safety and simplicity in the electrical vehicle battery charging. Many options are offered to transfer the electrical power wirelessly, comprising Inductive Power Transfer method which is a widely known way in doing a near-field wireless power transfer. In this paper, the proposed transfer circuit topology is the series-parallel using litz wire. The power converter circuits are modelled and analyzed using Simulink® while the resonant transfer circuit is modelled and analyzed using COMSOL®. Based on the availability of the components and the 85% minimum transfer efficiency targeted, the resonance frequency is found on 50,752 Hertz while the air gap is held constantly at 15.5 cm. In the primary side, the electricity from the grid system is converted into a resonant high frequency AC power by using an AC-AC converter with DC link. In the secondary side this high frequency AC power will then be rectified and regulated into a DC power using full bridge rectifier and Buck and Buck-Boost DC-DC converters with a two-schemes charging control before it is injected into the battery.
