Ground-based and in-situ studies of plasma phenomena affecting transionospheric radio signals

Plasma irregularities in the Earth's ionosphere influence propagation of radio waves. They can lead to scintillations of signal received on the ground, which can degrade the accuracy and quality of the Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). This study focuses on the effects of polar cap patches, auroral blobs and pure aurora, and relating these phenomena to different levels of GPS scintillations at high latitudes. Ground-based studies are complemented by in-situ measurements.
