Attenuation and countermeasures in millimeter-wave point-to-multipoint networks

Whilst most propagation studies for line-of-sight links in the millimeter-wave range have in the past concentrated on point-to-point performance prediction, this study is specifically directed to point-to-multipoint aspects, with a special interest in the possibility of using intelligent resource sharing techniques at the central node. Dual-polarization radar data, covering a 2-year period, are used to make predictions of attenuation and interference in the 20 to 50 GHz range for 1 to 20-km radius networks employing either adaptive gain, adaptive time division multiple access, or both techniques combined.
