Distributed queuing with preamble grouping for massive IoT devices in LTE random access

As usage of smart devices has increased explosively, supporting smart devices by using cellular networks becomes an important issue. When a massive number of smart devices try random access to get connections to the cellular network, preamble collisions become a severe problem. In this paper, a preamble grouping method based on a distributed queuing algorithm is proposed. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can reduce the average number of random access slots until all devices succeed random access by using the proposed preamble grouping algorithm.
