A new low-profile and closely spaced dual-polarized antenna for massive-MIMO applications

In this paper, a new low profile and closely spaced dual-polarized antenna (DPA) is proposed. The low profile DPA element with height of 0.112λ is made of a four-port radiator and two feeding networks. Simulated results show that the element can cover the frequency band of 2.535–2.655GHz, along with reflection<−13dB, port isolation<−21dB, gain over 8.8dBi and stable 3dB beam width (62°±2°). Based on above DPA, a 4×4 closely spaced array under the size conditions of 2.8λ× 1.7λ× 0.112λ, is realized by simulations with gain of 11∼12.4dBi for its each 1×4 sub-array (SA), showing it to be a good candidate solution for Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) applications.
