Performance of an SC duplex transceiver for 2.5 Gbit/s with clock and data recovery

The design and performance of an SC duplex fibre optic transceiver with clock and data recovery is described. The results demonstrate that the transceiver exceeds the requirements of the ITU-T G957 and G958 documents for SONET systems under the 'intra-office' specification, for link lengths of up to two kilometres. The transceiver was designed to operate at 2.488 Gbit/s (STM-16) but we have demonstrated operation over a wide range of bit rates from 500 Mbit/s to 3.0 Gbit/s. The part also meets the IEC and CDRH regulatory limits for laser eye safety.
