Design and optimization of a single mode octagonal photonic crystal fiber for high negative dispersion and high nonlinearity

In this paper, a single mode photonic crystal fiber based on octagonal structure is proposed for high negative dispersion coefficient and high nonlinearity. To scrutinize the guiding property, the finite element method with perfectly matched absorbing layers boundary condition is used. In accordance with simulation, negative dispersion coefficient of -3339 ps/(nm.km), high nonlinear coefficient of 54.74 W-1km-1 and low confinement loss around 0.06521 dB/km at 1550 nm are obtained. In addition, ± 1 % variation to the optimum parameters is also studied to evaluate the tolerance of the fabrication.
