Terahertz coherent Raman spectroscopy of dimethyl sulfoxide and water mixtures using frequency chirped pulses

We present coherent Raman spectroscopy of DMSO/water mixtures in the terahertz (THz) frequency region. In the measurements we use the spectral focusing technique with frequency chirped optical pulses, which enables us to measure both the stimulated Raman gain and loss signal in a wide THz frequency range from 0.1 to 25 THz. The observed coherent Raman spectra of [DMSO/water] mixtures show nonlinear peak frequency shifts of DMSO Raman bands against the water mole fraction, suggesting intermolecular interactions between DMSO and water.
