Optimal combination and sizing of a standalone hybrid power system using HOMER

This paper presents the optimal hybrid energy system that gives optimum cost of energy production, emissions etc. The computations are done by Homer Pro. This paper proposes a standalone hybrid power system model by considering a metrological data at JNTUK Vizianagaram campus. The proposed model includes PV and Wind sources in combination with Diesel generation. The intermittent nature of Solar and wind leads to power outages due to insufficient solar energy and lack of wind speed. Hence diesel generator is also considered for continuous electrical power generation. Thus the proposed standalone hybrid power system includes PV panels, Wind Energy Conversion system, Diesel Generator, Power Converter & Battery for storage. Further the performance of proposed model is analyzed by connecting a load with daily energy consumption of 11.26Kwh/day for max demand of 2.09KW. The metrological data for simulation in HOMER at JNTU Vizianagaram is taken from National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL) to analyze system performance. The simulated results shows economical combination and sizing of components with 1KW PV, 3KW Wind Generator, 2KW Diesel Generator, 2KW converter and 1KWH battery that meets annual energy demand.
