A review on Inertial navigational systems

Navigation is a important feature in every transportation modes. It has gained a vast importance in the aviation sector. This can be attributed to the fact that, Use of non accurate navigational systems and their failure in delivering the output. A broad variety of navigational technologies have the potential to fulfill the navigational and surveillance portion of the system. This paper describes the development of the Inertial navigational systems and provides a description of the INS system operation, offers results of operational evaluations based on actual study conducted on the present performance data available from various aircrafts. Practical examples are also considered to provide the reader with a broader view of the disastrous results that is obtained when a INS system fails. A effort has been made to understand the similarities between the predictive maintenance and the inertial navigation system.
