Interactive white board using gestures with KINECT

Human computer interaction has become a revolutionary field and now a days, It is recognized as a research field. Focus of this pape is to proceed in the field of human computer interaction. This paper presents a idea in which, projector projects the computer screen on the board and user can control the computer using stylus and gestures. These types of interactive applications are widely used in education as well as in business sector. There are different types of technologies existing for this purpose in the past as infrared scan, resistive touch and electromagnetic pen based interactive whiteboard. The purpose of our research is to design such an interactive application which is environment friendly and cheaper than the existing products. Gestures recognition is a new step we have taken to improve the interactivity in contemporary applications. Our main focus is to recognize the human gestures and the stylus point in order to control the computer so, human skeleton is detected using Kinect camera with OpenNI library. The depth sensor of Kinect is an infrared camera and background have little impact on the performance of our system so, we can easily detect the skeleton using it and the output of the infrared camera is raw infrared stream. We have to extract the depth information of object using OpenNI. We used OpenCV which is a computer vision system library and provide us the algorithms for computer vision. Afterwards the step is to recognize the detected gestures and control the computer according to the instructions provided by the user. These type of interactive application add interactivity in our lives and make it easy to understand the complex problems of our life easily. We will try to provide the paperless environment with the help of interactivity at such a level.
