Building an agile network using WDM-RoF-PON structure

Currently due to the rise in demand of bandwidth Radio-over-Fiber (RoF) is a significant solution to increase the capacity, decrease cost and provide with large coverage area. To enhance the overall capacity and coverage area the wavelength division multiplexing-radio over fiber-passive optical network (WDM-RoF-PON) scheme can be deployed. One of its benefits is the chance to share the capacity of any wavelength among more than one user, by using WDM. The primary motivation for this enormous research on PONs is the savings due to shared costs involved in the point-to-multipoint design used only with fibers and passive devices. We have implemented single user WDM-RoF-PON structure using radio over fiber and transmitting data over bidirectional optical fiber. To reduce cost a source free ONU is implemented using Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) filter. We assess the performance of the WDM-RoF-PON system with the help of quality factor, bit error rate, eye height shown in the eye diagram obtained.
