Novel continuation power flow algorithm

This paper presents a new, improved and efficient continuation power-flow algorithm suitable for constructing the complete power-voltage curves of multi-bus power grids. The algorithm is based on standard Newton-Raphson method of power-flow calculations, but with a modified Jacobian around the bifurcation point. The algorithm is tested on IEEE 30-bus system and compared with some well-established and commonly used algorithms. It is shown, through extensive simulation studies, that the new algorithm yields identical results to the established algorithms, despite its ease of implementation, fast execution time and low computational cost.
