Weighting factors for estimating the economic impact of voltage dips

The economic loss of an industrial customer due to a voltage dip depends on the impact of the dip on the customer that is expressed relative to the process interruption as the base. The relative impact may vary depending on the severity of voltage dips and sensitivity of the process to the dips. In this paper, a method for determining weighting factors of various types of dips having different magnitudes and durations is proposed in order to find the equivalent process interruptions. The methodology is based on the analysis of the actual loss of power due to various types of voltage dips monitored at the primary substations of MV distribution networks. This will be helpful when estimating the cost of voltage dips in the whole MV distribution network or an industrial customer connected to part of the network.
