Modeling of roughness-salinity microwave anomalies at S and L bands

A numerical modeling of roughness-salinity-temperature microwave radiometric anomalies (RSTA) are made specially for S- and L-bands. RSTA are estimated using two electromagnetic approaches: resonance and macroscopic. The calculated brightness temperature contrasts induced by salinity variations are maximal in the range of wavelengths /spl lambda/=18...21 cm at grazing view angles and vertical polarization. In this case the brightness temperature sensitivity to salinity ranges over 0.2-1.2/spl deg/ Kelvin/ppt, depending on the surface parameters.
