Results on the TUDelft solar energy massive open online course: Reaching out to more than 150.000 students around the world

Education plays an important role in accelerating the acceptance and integration of the photovoltaic technologies in the global energy infrastructure. This has been the main reason for Delft University of Technology to launch a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Solar Energy on the edX platform two years ago. Up to date over 150.000 students around the world have enrolled in this course. In this contribution the global impact of this MOOC on students, professionals, universities and industry. Examples will be given how the MOOC realized to improve the living standards of student with limited access to electricity. Using the MOOC platform new methods have been explored to collect data on PV related topics and to create professional networks. Finally, the vision on new innovative online courses on Solar Energy will be presented.
