A New Shade of Red

My desk hardly shows any colors. Most documents, which are piled up all over it, taking each square centimeter, only show polite colors, pale blue, yellow, and green. People are careful not to be aggressive with colors. This is why this journal, with a new shade of red, struck me right away. It was lying a bit off center on the desk of Roger Van Overstaeten, on the first floor of the Institute of Elektrotechniek, on the Heverlee campus of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. It was my first month as a research assistant in his group called Physics and Electronics of Semiconductors. It was October 1968.
