Iron Losses Calculation of a novel Axial flux machine with different Slot-Pole Combinations based on the FEA Results corresponding to one-sixth electrical Period

This paper deals with the high efficient iron losses calculation of a yokeless and segmented-armature axial flux machine, which consists of two external rotors and an internal stator. It has many great advantages such as high efficiency, short axial length, high torque and power density due to the absence of stator yoke and the application of double layer concentrated winding. Considering the 3D magnetic flux in the machine, the time-consuming 3D finite element analysis is necessary to predict the performance accurately. By fully utilizing the electromagnetic periodicity, it is only necessary to analyse the machine for one-sixth electrical period to completely characterize its performance. However, the iron losses model premises the Fourier analysis of the complete flux density waveform for an electrical period in each SMC element. Hence, a general method to reconstruct the complete flux density waveform of a yokeless and segmented armature axial flux machine with different slot-pole combinations based on the FEA over 1/6 electrical period is investigated in this work.
