On the velocity of positive streamer propagation in dielectric liquids

The onset and propagation of discharge channels in insulators is of prime concern. The manner and rate of propagation of discharges is an important guide to the physical mechanisms involved. Most reports relating to discharge phenomena are only able to quote mean velocities for the discharge streamer. This can disguise the fact that the tip velocity is rarely constant with growth across the gap.
