Research on chatter suppression based on MRF in turning

This paper proposed a semi-active control method based on MRF to control the chatter in turning, which directed at the problems of low precision and poor surface quality, and so on, due to chatter in turning. It can complete the stepless change of stiffness and damping parameters by adjusting the field coil current in semi-active magneto-rheological damper used in fixture and the magnetic field strength. So, it can realize the compensation of structural dynamic online and intelligent chatter control online in turning. Finally, the experimental system, used in chatter suppression, of intelligent magneto-rheological elastomers turning bar is set up on the lathe of CA6140. The results show that this method can inhibit chatter quickly and efficiently in turning, and improve the surface quality greatly.
