Electrification of polymers during extrusion

It is well known that common polymeric solids such as polystyrene and polyethylene readily exhibit static electrification which is generated by contact with other solids. The possibility that significant charge can be generated in these materials during extrusion and other melt operations has not been considered at length although Hey I¹ did briefly refer to the possibility of charge in the bulk of processed polymers.
