Wavelet packet decomposition for power quality monitoring in smart grid

In this paper, a framework for the smart grid (SG) power quality (PQ) monitoring system based on wavelet packet decomposition (WPD) is proposed to detect PQ disturbances. This paper proposes an effective technique for PQ disturbances detection based on the inter- and intra-scale correlation of the wavelet packet coefficients. The wavelet packet coefficients are not only correlated within its own scale but also across the adjacent scales. This approach has been evaluated using both simulated and real power system disturbance data.
