Effect on molecular weight distributions of polyethylene after ion implantation

Discharges in dielectric materials are known to cause some, at least, of the failures observed during service. A major factor limiting the life of polyethylene cables, for example, is believed to be progressive deterioration due to discharges in gas-filled cavities. The characteristics of their development has been studied.^1–3
