Online condition monitoring of SF6 circuit breaker

Objective of proposed paper is to introduce a condition monitoring system which will continuously monitor the state of CB on site. The CB suffers from various failures such as failure in control circuit, auxiliary coil failure, and various other mechanical failures. The maintenance of CB is done periodically which requires time, man power and cost. Also the breaker is removed for its maintenance, which needs another spare breaker which again adds to the total cost of maintenance. The online condition monitoring is done to avoid all these factors. In online condition Monitoring trip/close coil current signature is taken on the oscilloscope. By knowing the nature of signature of a particular breaker, we can predict if the breaker is healthy, faulty or going to be faulty. Using this technique, many failures are detected at their early stage and major failures are prevented which may come in future. Thus online condition monitoring is the continuous monitoring, collecting, comparing and analyzing the CB data to avoid the breaker from malfunctioning.
