Dual Watermarking Based on Wavelet Transform for Data Protection in Smart Grid

With the increasing development of power communication and the application of wireless sensor networks in smart grid, how to protect the safety of a large number of grid data becomes a great challenge. Digital watermarking is a new technology in data security field. It has unique advantage for protecting the data in smart grid. The available watermarking algorithms usually separate copyright protection and integrity of data, but the research on how to joint copyright protection and integrity is far from enough. This paper proposes an algorithm of dual watermarking based on wavelet transform for data protection in smart grid. Two different watermarks, robustness watermark and fragile watermark, are embedded in the significant coefficients of DWT to protect both copyright and integrity of data. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme has the characteristics of security, integrity, transparency, robustness, low energy consumption, and will not affect the reliability of power network data communications.
