Editorial Special Issue on Resilient Microgrids

The increasing complexity of electric power systems, growing demand for electric energy, and requirements for reliability, security, and sustainability are driving the transformation of utilities worldwide toward the integration of renewable energy resources particularly at distributed generation levels, demand side management systems, and information, control, and communication systems in electric grids, in addition to advanced backbone transmission networks. In this environment of rapid transformation of power systems, microgrids have evolved over the past decade through extensive research and development efforts and technology demonstration projects in many countries in the world.
