A novel harmonic decomposition technique based on a windowing scheme for simulating Rayleigh fading channels

In this paper a new parameter computation method (PCM) for generating wide sense stationary colored processes for Rayleigh fading channels, is presented. The proposed PCM based on harmonic decomposition technique allows the simulation of stochastic channels with arbitrary Doppler power spectral density. The simulation model generates correlated noise samples with accuracy and improves the convergence to the reference channel statistics, such as autocorrelation function (ACF) and Doppler power spectral density (DPSD). A drawback of the stochastic and deterministic PCMs, is the existence of undesired statistical distortions introduced into the channel under simulation when there is a parameters renewal of the PCM. Hence, in order to remove this drawback a shaping window is applied, in time domain, over the generated processes allowing to achieve stochastic fading channel waveforms with arbitrary long duration. Simulations results show that the generated process statistics converge to the theoretical reference model with exactness. This simulation model allows the developing of Rayleigh fading channel simulators for testing wireless communication systems.
