On the bandwidth of small dipoles and the electric polarizability

Recent theoretical developments suggest that the low-frequency electric polarizability is a key factor in determining bandwidth bounds for electrically small dipole antennas. Using example designs of cylindrical shape, bandwidth properties in terms of the radiation Q and the associated electric polarizabilities are numerically investigated. Strong correlation is observed between the polarizability and the achieved bandwidth values. It suggests that a structure with the bounding surface that is close to that of the given design space is a good candidate for maximum bandwidth performance.
