Vanadium dioxide reconfigurable slot antenna

A novel method for reconfigurable antennas that utilize the unique properties of phase-change materials has recently been demonstrated using a metallic bowtie dipole antenna. Here, a reconfigurable coplanar folded slot antenna prototype with Vanadium Dioxide (VO₂) is presented. The antenna has the ability to alter its resonant frequency with temperature. The main design methodology and design characteristics are presented. This technology can lead to advanced designs and devices that employ phase-change materials as their reconfiguration method. Additional results from different antennas, integration challenges, and potential capabilities will be presented.
